Phil's Dad

Just got this note from Shana. Phil's dad is a fine man and I know the family would appreciate our prayers.
Shana wrote: As most of you know, Mr. Keenon came through the arteriorgram/stents pretty well. However, last Fri. he came down with an intestinal infection called c-diff. They called in an infectious disease dr. who has been working with them all weekend - don't know what exactly they were doing because we are not allowed to go see him due to this infection.

The dr. came back in this morning and was not pleased with how he was doing so he sent him for a CAT scan. Mary Glenna (Phil's sis) called a few minutes ago and said that the CAT scan showed that his colon is severely enlarged and if it does not go down in the next 24-48 hours, they will have to operate because it could rupture. He is very weak and we are extremely concerned. Today they put in a "pick" line(?) to feed him because they don't want him to have anything by mouth. Please keep Mr. K and Mrs. K (she is exhausted but will not leave him) in your prayers

Trying to keep up

I imagine everyone gets tired of me just listing the sick on this blog, but it helps me keep up and reminds me to pray. Hope it does the same for you.
  • Ricky had a spell with dizziness and high blood pressure. He was in and out of the hospital earlier this week.
  • Joyce is still tiring easily as she recuperates.
  • Jena, Agnes and perhaps others have the cold that's been going around.
  • Amy is to have surgery on her ankle tomorrow (Thursday). She'll have to be in a cast for several weeks.
  • Roger had surgery on Monday to repair a detached retina.
  • It was good to see Willa Jean out tonight. She continues to need our prayers.
  • James C. told me that Carolyn got a good report from the doctor regarding her thyroid cancer.
  • Tim J's uncle's visitation is tomorrow at 11:00 and the funeral at 2:00 p.m. at Limestone Chapel.

Concerning the infirm...

Here are a few of the sick and infirm I know about.
Willa Jean has fluid on her knee. Cathy is taking her to the doctor in the morning.
Roger is recovering at home from back surgery.
Elaine is in ECM hospital being given blood.
Susan is still having a lot of trouble with her back.
Sommer and Sandi are still icky this evening, but will hopefully feel better soon.
I think there may be several others, but don't know enough to report.

Tuesday, April 1, 2008

Mother is to go to ECM tomorrow to receive blood. She is dangerously anemic. The doctor said that he would try to get it done during the day, but she should be prepared to stay overnight. He also mentioned further tests. Please pray for her.

VBS DATES!!!

The elders would like to have VBS from July 7-11 this year. I think this will enable us to miss conflicts from teacher workshops, vacations, camps, etc. in June. Everyone check your calendars and hopefully this will be a good week for most of us to participate. Let me know what you think.
thanks,
Steve

Caleb

Has anyone heard from Caleb Thornton? I believe his surgery was scheduled for today.

This Shall Be a Sign Unto You

New Georgia has a new sign in the yard in front of the building. It has a place accross the bottom that we can put short messages with magnetic letters we've purchased. So, if you come up with a catchy/scriptural saying, pass it on to me... maybe we can use it.
Here are some I found on the internet. Anybody want to vote for their favorite?

Be Fishers of Men.... You catch 'em, He'll Clean 'em
A clean conscience makes a soft pillow.
A lot of kneeling will keep you in good standing.
Are you wrinkled with burden? Come on into Church for a faith lift!
Coincidence is when God chooses to remain anonymous.
Do your best and then sleep in peace. God is Awake.
Don't put a question mark where God put a period.
Don't wait for 6 strong men to take you to church.
Exercise daily. Walk with the Lord!
Fear knocked. Faith answered. No one was there.
For all you do, His blood's for you!
Forbidden fruits create many jams.
Give God what's right, not what's left!
Give Satan an inch and he'll be a ruler.

Joyce Cagle

Joyce had to go back to the hospital Monday. She was having chest pain and shortness of breath. They wound up putting in a stint to repair blockage Tuesday morning. She was doing well as of Tuesday afternoon, for which we thank God. She's in room 366 at ECM.

What's new?

I think Malissa is having her back surgery this morning. Does anyone else have any news? How'd everything go at New Georgia yesterday?
I got to see Jason and Amanda yesterday morning -- they visited at Mt. Olive in Gardendale where I'm preaching the gospel meeting this week. It was nice to look out and see a couple of familiar faces!

My weekend

Hope everyone had a good day Sunday. I talked to Bob Waldron & Greg Chandler, and they both indicated that they enjoyed their time on Sunday with New Georgia.
The gospel meeting went well in Albertville [except for the preaching ;-) ] The audio and lesson material from the Albertville meeting are posted on their website if you want to see what I was up to over the weekend -- the URL is http://theinstructor.org
Hope to see everyone Wednesday night.

Missed Sunday Night

Hello all,
Just wanted to let you know that we worshipped with West Rogersville on Sunday night because we were running too late to make it to New Georgia (imagine that!). Anyway, we had a lovely song service. Unity was the theme and Eph. 4 was the primary passage. With the LCD, they would project a few passages that someone read. Then, another would sing a couple of songs that went with it. Next, a new display was up and someone else would read new passages displayed, then songs were sung that went with them. At the end, Joel got up and brought it all together with a short message. It did remind me of some Wednesday night singings. I just liked the way it was all centered around one thing.

OK, that was my "blog" for the week! Hope everyone has a wonderful, safe, and HEALTHY week!

Cathy

I am forgetting to check out the blog. Beth reminded me yesterday. I had not heard about Ann's baby. When I tried to log on to post a blog, I had already forgotten my password. How's that for a senior moment?

Hope everyone is feeling well. I am taking Mother to the doctor today. Hopefully, we can find out why she is having trouble walking. Please keep her in your prayers.

Sarah's Surgery

Hi everyone! I know it is late, but I wanted to let everyone know that my niece, Sarah, will be having her adnoids (sp?) removed tomorrow morning (Tuesday) at 7:30. She will also have her left sinus flushed out. Please keep her in your prayers. Also, say a prayer for Chris and Hope. It is very hard to have your baby be put to sleep for surgery. I hope everyone is doing well. How is Elaine doing?

Update from the James Cagle family

Mother just called from Birmingham. Carolyn is out of surgery. Dr. said everything went well. Aubrey is still breaking out with chicken pox. She had the vaccine at 1, so she is only having a mild case. Dr. said to expect around 50 spots. Keith said she is growing feathers! :) He had a touch of the stomach bug yesterday. Better today. Haley has moved in with my parents - she doesn't want the diseases! HA! :) Have a good week!

It's COLD!!!

I just thought I would see if this works.

I hope everyone is staying warm today. I hear we may be getting even colder weather tomorrow and this weekend. Don't anybody get sick, ya hear?

I thought I might let everyone know that I won't be at services Sunday. John and I plan to go to Auburn to visit his parents for the MLK holiday this weekend. We will be attending services somewhere down there. I will miss all of you, though.

I hope Sommer is feeling better and that Katie is being a good nurse.

How did Mr. Beavers' knee surgery go? I re-learned from his grandson, Drew Miller (also grandson of Don and Brenda Miller, with whom I stay), that Mr. Beavers was having his surgery a couple of days ago. Small world, huh?

Ok. I'll quit. I hope you all have a wonderful week and stay really, really warm.

The Deal With Sommer (Part 2)

As we announced today, Sommer had a fall on a sailboat and cracked a rib. When she went to the doctor to have it checked this afternoon, he pushed on the rib and broke it. She spent this evening in the emergency room getting checked out. X-rays and CT scan showed no signs of complications like a punctured lung, so they sent her home, but she's in a lot of pain. Please keep her and and her mom in prayer.
thanks,
Steve
